RHINOPHYMA REMOVAL, RHINOPHYMA SURGICAL SHAVE
Plastic Surgeon Muhammad Javaid performs Rhinophyma Removal using twilight sedation in addition to local anaesthesia. Rhinophyma Surgical Shave procedure takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The time off work recommended after Rhinophyma Removal Surgery is at least 1 week and the overall results are visible after approximately 3 months.
Rhinophyma Surgical Shave is performed to remove overgrowth of excess tissue and reshape the nose to restore the natural look, aiming to improve the patient’s appearance and self-esteem.
WHAT IS RHINOPHYMA?
Rhinophyma is a progressive skin lesion that causes the nose to enlarge and become red, bumpy, and bulbous due to chronic sebaceous gland hypertrophy. Rhinophyma is much more common in males than females and usually develops between the ages of 50–70.
Rhinophyma has been long associated with chronic alcohol use, informally being misnamed whisky nose, rum blossom or cauliflower nose; however, studies do not support this link and there is no clear reason or causative trigger for this disfiguring condition.
Rhinophyma is thought to result from untreated severe rosacea, a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes facial redness on the nose and cheeks. People with untreated rosacea are at a higher risk of developing Rhinophyma.
OTHER SKIN CONDITIONS
In addition to Rhinophyma Removal, other lumps and bumps on the face or other parts of the body can be embarrassing for many and can lead to pain, distress and restriction of movement. The examples of such conditions are keloids, moles, lipoma, fibroma, benign soft tissue tumours arising from sweat glands, hair follicles, sebaceous glands or nerve fibres like neurofibromas. Mr Javaid also routinely performs excision of benign soft tissue lumps and bumps in addition to benign skin lesions.
